A heated exchange on the road turned dangerous Wednesday morning when a suspected road rage incident in Mesa ended in gunfire, leaving at least one person injured, according to the Mesa Police Department.
Authorities responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Val Vista and University drives. Preliminary findings suggest that what began as a verbal altercation between drivers quickly escalated into a shooting. Police confirmed that one individual was struck, though details about the victim’s condition have not been released.
As of mid-morning, the area remained an active investigation site, with officers blocking off traffic and asking the public to avoid the vicinity. Detectives are working to determine what sparked the confrontation and whether any arrests have been made.
The incident adds to a troubling pattern of aggressive driving and violence across the Phoenix metro area in recent months. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation or has dashcam footage to contact Mesa PD or submit tips anonymously through Silent Witness.
