A retired Arizona deputy fatally shot a man on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, who was allegedly responsible for killing his estranged wife in a domestic violence incident. The retired officer, who still serves as a reserve deputy for the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), responded to the situation after hearing a violent altercation near his home in Prescott’s Wildwood Estates.
Authorities confirmed that the estranged couple had been involved in multiple previous domestic violence investigations. Despite the deputy’s efforts to intervene, the husband is believed to have fatally shot his wife as she attempted to escape their residence. The deputy discharged his weapon to stop the suspect from further harming anyone.
Both the husband and wife were pronounced dead at the scene from their injuries. The Arizona Department of Public Safety has taken over the investigation of the incident at the request of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff David Rhodes expressed his gratitude for the deputy’s swift actions. “This incident is a stark reminder of the dedication from our men and women in uniform, on and off duty,” Rhodes stated, thanking law enforcement officers for their commitment to protecting the community.
