Another drug, another hope in the fight against COVID-19.
Researchers in England report that they have found a drug that can improve survival of COVID-19.
According to results released Tuesday, a steroid called dexamethasone reduced deaths by up to one third in severely ill hospitalized patients.
The study was led by the University of Oxford and involved thousands of patients randomly assigned to get the drug versus just normal care from those suffering from the virus.
Dexamethasone reduced deaths by 35% in patients who needed treatment with breathing machines and by 20% in those only needing supplemental oxygen.
Results found that the steroid did appear to help less ill patients, only those battling the virus that were severely ill.
