PHOENIX, Ariz. — Demonstrators gathered across the country, including at the Arizona State Capitol, on Presidents Day to protest President Donald Trump’s wave of executive orders since taking office last month.
The 50501 Movement, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one movement, originated on Reddit and has grown to over 100,000 supporters. Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Phoenix, joining thousands nationwide in a coordinated effort to challenge the administration’s policy changes and mass federal layoffs.
“We refuse to accept that money should hold the power to undermine the fundamental rights we cherish as Americans,” the group said in a statement on their website.
The protests come in response to a series of executive orders signed by Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, which included the firing of thousands of federal employees.
The Trump administration has defended the workforce reductions, arguing that the federal government has grown too large and that downsizing is necessary for greater efficiency.
As demonstrations continue across the nation, the 50501 Movement vows to keep pushing for policy reforms and increased government accountability.
