A Prescott Valley man has been convicted on multiple felony charges after prosecutors said he drove under the influence of methamphetamine with a 12-year-old passenger in his vehicle.
According to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office, a jury found 45-year-old Robert Casimer Luft guilty on May 14 of possession or use of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, aggravated DUI with a passenger under 15, and child abuse.
County Attorney Dennis McGrane said impaired driving continues to pose serious risks to both drivers and the public, particularly when children are involved.
The charges stem from an Aug. 8, 2024, traffic stop near Dewey-Humboldt. Prosecutors said deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office observed Luft driving erratically near Highway 69 and Agua Fria Road before initiating a stop.
During the investigation, deputies conducted a DUI evaluation and later discovered methamphetamine both in Luft’s pocket and in his bloodstream, according to court records released by prosecutors.
Luft is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30.
