Powerball Jackpot Reaches $1.8 Billion, Second-Largest in U.S. History

Winning tickets sold in Missouri and Texas split record-breaking prize

DES MOINES, Iowa — The winning numbers for Saturday night’s $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot have been drawn, making it the second-largest lottery prize in U.S. history.

The numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and Powerball 17.

Lottery officials confirmed that two winning tickets matched all six numbers — one purchased in Missouri and the other in Texas.

Why the jackpot grew so large

The prize had rolled over 40 consecutive drawings since the last jackpot was won on May 31, steadily climbing into record territory. Powerball’s steep odds of 1 in 292.2 million are designed to build massive jackpots, while still offering players smaller, more frequent prizes.

Payout options for winners

The advertised $1.8 billion amount applies to the annuity option, which pays out over 29 years in 30 installments. Most winners instead choose the cash option, which for this drawing is estimated at $826.4 million.

Powerball availability

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place three times a week.
