A late-night argument on a Tempe light rail train ended in violence Thursday when one woman stabbed another, according to police.
Officers were called to the area near Apache Boulevard and Smith Road around 9:40 p.m. after reports of a stabbing onboard a Valley Metro light rail train. When they arrived, they found a woman suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police said the suspect had already fled the scene by the time officers arrived and remained at large as of Friday morning. Investigators believe the attack followed an altercation between the two women, though the cause of the dispute has not been publicly released.
The Tempe Police Department continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information about the incident to contact authorities.
The stabbing marks the latest in a series of violent incidents reported along the light rail corridor in recent months, raising renewed concerns over passenger safety on public transit in the Phoenix metro area.
