PHOENIX — July 11, 2025 — A 29-year-old woman and her pet dog were killed early Friday morning in a hit-and-run collision in west Phoenix, according to authorities.
Officers from the Phoenix Police Department responded to the area of 51st Avenue and Elwood Street, just south of Lower Buckeye Road, around 1 a.m. after reports of a pedestrian lying in the road.
When officers arrived, they found Brittany Geib and her dog in the middle of the street with critical injuries. Responders from the Phoenix Fire Department pronounced both deceased at the scene.
What happened in the fatal crash?
“Detectives responded to the scene and learned of a vehicle, possibly a Toyota Tacoma, driving south on 51st Avenue that had struck Geib while she was in the roadway with her dog,” said Sgt. Brian Bower in a statement. “The vehicle did not stop and continued south, leaving the scene of the collision.”
Investigators believe a second vehicle, possibly a Toyota Camry, may also have been involved and failed to remain at the scene.
