Phoenix police are searching for suspects after a toddler was seriously injured in a shooting that unfolded Tuesday afternoon in south Phoenix.
Officers responded just after noon to the area of 32nd Street and Broadway Road following reports of “unknown trouble,” according to the Phoenix Police Department. When they arrived, they discovered a young child suffering from gunshot wounds. The toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in serious condition.
During a press briefing, Sgt. Jen Zak said that detectives are still piecing together what happened, as the suspects had fled the scene before officers arrived. “We don’t know how each one of them is currently involved,” Zak explained, urging anyone with information or footage to come forward.
Initially, investigators believed the shooting may have stemmed from a domestic violence situation, but later evidence suggested that might not be the case. Police are also still searching for the firearm used in the incident.
Authorities confirmed that video of the shooting may exist and are asking the public to share any relevant footage with investigators to help reconstruct the sequence of events. “These incidents, especially those involving our youth, are deeply concerning,” Zak said. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to find those responsible.”
