Pima County Deputy on Leave After Alleged Threats Against President Trump

Secret Service leading investigation into social media posts attributed to Deputy Ramon Hernandez.

A Pima County Sheriff’s deputy has been placed on paid leave after allegedly making threatening comments toward President Donald Trump on social media, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed Tuesday.

Deputy Ramon Hernandez is under investigation by the U.S. Secret Service, which was alerted to the posts by concerned citizens. Sheriff Nanos said his office is cooperating fully with federal investigators.

“We are very much concerned,” Nanos wrote in a statement. “The Secret Service is conducting a criminal investigation as we speak, and we are cooperating fully. To be clear, this Sheriff and this department does not and will never condone violence of any kind.”

Nanos emphasized that his department will not begin an internal review until the federal inquiry is complete. He added that deputies are held to the “highest standard of professionalism” both on and off duty.

The alleged comments have not yet been publicly detailed, and no charges have been filed as the Secret Service investigation continues.

Sheriff Nanos pledged transparency as the case develops: “We are committed to keeping this community safe and will take a very close look at all of the allegations in front of us.”
