Phoenix Weekend Road Closures: 3 Big Closures to Watch Out For

It’s going to be a beautiful weekend to get out and explore Arizona! Just make sure to avoid some of these road closures listed by ADOT.

There will be three road closures that you should stay clear of in the Phoenix area. The Northbound Interstate 17 is closed between 19th Avenue and McDowell Road. This road will be closed due to rubberized asphalt resurfacing. A productive detour would be using the I-10 going westward or using the Camelback and Thomas roads for local east-west travel by the I-17.

Also, the Northbound Loop 101 is closed between US 60 and Loop 202. Due to sign installation, you may want to consider these detours: Using Price frontage road will be quicker. It’ll reconnect with the loop via the northbound on-ramp at Rio Salado Parkway.

Interstate 10 is also being closed from both directions overnight between Sarival Avenue and Perryville Road. The section of the road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday. This part of the interstate will be closed for bridge work. Instead of taking this route, drivers who are driving westward should consider using McDowell Road as a detour.

Southbound Loop 101 ramps to Loop 202 will be closed from both directions on 10 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday. Drivers are encouraged to use substitute routes. For access to Loop 202, drivers would find it best to travel using side streets. If drivers are traveling east or west, using McDowell Road would be most efficient. For drivers wanting to go south, it would be best to use Alma School Road.

The East- and westbound US 60 freeway will also be under maintenance from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The freeway will remain open, however there will be certain lanes that will be closed off.
