Phoenix, AZ – The city of Phoenix announced Friday the launch of its Neighborhood Parks Enhancement Program, which will distribute $1.5 million to local parks for improvements. Every council district in the city will receive funds, offering residents an opportunity to suggest enhancements that meet their community’s specific needs.
Neighborhood organizations are encouraged to submit project proposals online now through November 8.
“The Neighborhood Parks Enhancement Program is not just about funding, but about community involvement and revitalizing our parks based on what residents want,” said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego. “This is a meaningful investment in our neighborhoods, and we hope it will increase access to wonderful outdoor spaces for all Phoenix residents.”
The program is funded by the General Obligation (GO) Bond Program, approved by voters in November 2023. The bond provides funding for parks, libraries, public safety, and infrastructure projects across the city.
Registered neighborhood organizations can apply for funding for projects located at Phoenix parks. Organizations will be notified of their award status early next year, and projects are expected to be completed between 2024 and 2029.
“We are thrilled to offer this program to help neighborhoods enhance their local parks,” said Cynthia Aguilar, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “We can’t wait to see the creative ideas and projects that come from the community.”
Examples of potential park improvements include:
- Concrete Ping Pong Table – $6,000
- Concrete Cornhole (2) – $3,000
- Volleyball Court Resurfacing – $30-40,000
- Ramada – $40-80,000
- Exercise Equipment – $15-20,000
