Phoenix Suns New Practice Facility To Be Completed In September

Soon the Phoenix Suns will debut their new 50,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility that is in the final stages of completion.

Team officials said earlier this week the $45-million structure will be completed by late August or early September. Team owner Robert Sarver had an initial Aug. 1 target date at the groundbreaking ceremony last November.

The Suns (26-39) are in Florida for the NBA restart enjoying the practice setup that has two basketball courts, a training room and weight room nearby.

“It’s very similar to college workouts,” Suns All-Star guard Devin Booker said. “Usually in the NBA, on normal times, you lift individually with a trainer, but we’re doing a lot of circuit training, a lot of group training. It’s been very fun, man. A lot of personality in it. We have the music in there. Everybody’s supporting each other.”

In practice footage the league is providing the media, Booker is doing pull-ups with Deandre Ayton smiling and talking to him.

“Everybody has the same mindset, same mission and that’s to get better,” Booker continued. “These three-hour slot times that we get are very important for us. We don’t have much to do the rest of the day so we’re locked in.”

The new practice facility under construction in Phoenix, on 44th Street just north of Camelback Road, also will have two basketball courts, private health and training amenities along with offices for coaches, players and trainers for the Suns and WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.

The Suns can experience the same camaraderie in the new practice facility, but with a view of Camelback Mountain, fire pits, golf simulators and much more.

In the meantime, Monty Williams said the practice setup for the restart in Orlando is “somewhat like” what the Suns will have in their new facility.

“Everything is in close proximity,” Williams said. “The guys can go to the court, to the training room and to the weight room in a matter of seconds. So from that standpoint, it’s pretty efficient. I think what the league has done, if everybody was honest about it, and cut the complaining out of it, I think everybody would admit that this is above expectations based on what you thought you were going to see when you first got here. The setup, to me, is pretty cool.”
