Phoenix Rideshare Passenger Allegedly Runs Over Driver Multiple Times After Altercation

74-year-old driver dies in hospital; suspect charged with second-degree murder as investigation continues.

PHOENIX – A rideshare ride turned deadly on Tuesday evening when a passenger allegedly ran over her driver multiple times with his own vehicle following an altercation, according to Phoenix police.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle incident near 40th Street and Baseline Road around 5:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 31-year-old Jordan Spalding in the driver’s seat of the car, which was next to a canal, and 74-year-old Samuel Webster lying on the ground nearby.

Driver Succumbs to Injuries

Webster was transported to a hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department but later died from his injuries.

What Led to the Incident?

Initial investigations suggest that Webster and Spalding got into a dispute during the rideshare trip. Both exited the vehicle at some point, after which Spalding reportedly re-entered the car and ran over Webster multiple times, police said.

Spalding was detained at the scene and is now facing charges of second-degree murder.

Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the nature of the altercation, and the investigation remains ongoing.
