Phoenix residents will get several chances this fall to weigh in on a proposed light rail expansion that would extend service deeper into west Phoenix.
Valley Metro and the City of Phoenix are hosting three open houses for the West Phoenix Extension, a proposed 10-mile project that would connect the existing light rail system to the Desert Sky Transit Center near 79th Avenue and Thomas Road. The route would run west along Indian School Road before turning south toward Thomas Road.
The first open house is Aug. 19 at Desert West Community Center, followed by events Sept. 19 at Maryvale Community Center and Oct. 14 at Steele Indian School Park Memorial Hall. The sessions are informal, with no scheduled presentation, so residents can drop in, talk with project staff, review information and share their concerns or preferences.
The project is still being shaped, making public feedback particularly important. Residents can also submit comments online if they cannot attend one of the events. The expansion would give west Phoenix another connection to the Valley’s existing light rail network, potentially changing how residents in some of the city’s most transit-dependent areas get around.
