Phoenix Ranks #14 in Change

Phoenix was recently ranked #14 in regard to US cities that have changed the most in past decade. A report released by MagnifyMoney analyzed a variety of metrics that changed in US cities over the past ten years including income, crime rate, house prices, rent, resident age and traffic. Although commute time saw the least amount of change, the highest-ranked changes for Phoenix were recent moves and resident age. These changes may be indicative of emerging economic opportunities, or on the other end of the spectrum, economic decline.

Per the report, 61 percent of the residents in Phoenix had moved there in 2010 or later, and the average resident age went up by 2.8 years in the last decade. Austin, Texas ranked #1 for the city with the most change. Other cities that made the top ten list are Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Nashville, Portland, Denver, Raleigh, San Antonio, Charlotte, and San Jose.

MagnifyMoney, a subsidiary of LendingTree that provides information, tools and resources to help consumers make informed financial decisions, analyzed the 50 largest U.S. metro areas using nine elements of data to measure and identify areas of growth, decline and inactivity. Those nine factors included:

  • Commute times
  • Building permits
  • Median age
  • Employment
  • Income
  • House prices
  • Rent
  • Crime rate
  • Recent moves
