Phoenix Public Library is marking the 250th anniversary of the United States with a series of free educational and cultural programs designed to bring residents together through history, music and civic engagement.
As part of the nationwide America 250 celebration, library branches across Phoenix will host a variety of events throughout the year, including musical performances, discussions, educational workshops, crafts and interactive activities exploring the nation’s history and democratic traditions.
Organizers say the programming is intended to appeal to all ages while encouraging community members to learn more about the people, events and ideas that have shaped the United States over the past two and a half centuries.
One of the featured offerings is 250 Years of America: A Musical Event, a concert series presented by the North Valley Symphony. The performances will showcase music composed entirely by American composers and highlight the country’s rich musical heritage through live orchestral presentations at participating library locations.
Residents interested in government and civic participation can attend Your Constitution, a four-part educational series led by constitutional attorney Bob McWhirter. The program examines the structure of American government, the Bill of Rights and the roles of Congress, the presidency, the courts and citizens.
History and conservation enthusiasts will also have an opportunity to explore the origins of the national park system through The Cousins Roosevelt & America’s Best Idea, a presentation by storyteller and national parks interpreter Stephen A. Engelhardt. The program focuses on the conservation legacies of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D. Roosevelt and their influence on America’s public lands.
Library officials said the events are intended to foster learning, reflection and community connection while commemorating a milestone in the nation’s history.
All America 250 programs are free and open to the public, with events scheduled at multiple library branches throughout Phoenix. Residents can find dates, times and participating locations through the library’s official events calendar.
