PHOENIX, AZ – A memorial service for Phoenix Police Officer Zane Coolidge, who tragically passed away following a shooting earlier this month, will be held on Wednesday, according to an announcement by the Phoenix Police Department.
The private funeral service, set for 10 a.m., will be closed to the public but live-streamed on the department’s YouTube channel to allow the community to pay their respects remotely. At the request of Officer Coolidge’s family, the public is encouraged to line the sidewalks along the funeral procession route to honor his life and service.
The procession will begin at 60th Street and Bell Road, heading west before turning onto Cave Creek Road, where it will continue until its arrival at Dream City Church. Motor officers, Coolidge’s family and friends, and his squad from the Mountain View Precinct will lead the procession.
Coolidge, a beloved member of the Phoenix Police Department, passed away on September 6, three days after being shot in the line of duty. He and Officer Matthew Haney responded to a report of auto theft near 16th Street and McDowell Road on the evening of September 3. When the officers attempted to apprehend 41-year-old suspect Saul Bal, he fled and opened fire on them. Both officers were transported to Banner University Medical Center, where Haney was released the following day. Coolidge, however, remained on life support until his passing.
“Officer Coolidge was a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and a dedicated and beloved member of the Phoenix Police Department,” said Interim Chief Michael G. Sullivan in a statement. “His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and worked with him.”
The community continues to mourn the loss of Officer Coolidge, who gave his life in service to his city.
