Phoenix Police Investigate Fatal Incident After Man Is Run Over in Parking Lot

Authorities say the victim was lying in a poorly lit area when a semi-truck attempting to exit the lot struck him early Monday morning.

A death investigation is underway in east Phoenix after a man was fatally struck by a semi-truck in a parking lot before dawn on Monday.

The incident happened around 3:10 a.m. near the intersection of 44th and Van Buren streets, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Officers responded to the scene and found the adult male deceased. He was pronounced dead at the location.

Investigators say early findings suggest the man was lying down in a dimly lit section of the parking lot when the truck drove over him. Police indicated the semi-truck was maneuvering through the lot in an attempt to exit onto 44th Street at the time of the incident.

Authorities reported that the truck driver did not show signs of impairment. No arrests have been announced, and officials have not yet released the identity of the victim.

“This remains an active investigation,” police said, adding that additional details will be shared as they become available. More information from the Phoenix Police Department is expected as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case adds to a series of recent fatal incidents involving pedestrians in Phoenix, highlighting ongoing safety concerns during overnight hours.
