Phoenix Police Ask Residents for Feedback on Use-of-Force Policy Updates

Public comment period runs through October on five proposed revisions

The Phoenix Police Department is inviting community members to weigh in on several proposed changes to its policies regarding less-lethal tools used by officers.

The draft updates cover five areas: spit socks, chemical irritants, Taser Energy Weapon (TEW) procedures, impact weapons, and less-lethal launchers. The revisions also account for the introduction of newer devices such as the Taser 10 and REPULS, and include expanded guidelines for deployment, documentation, and medical aid after use.

Officials say the goal is to ensure these tools are only used by trained personnel and that their deployment is consistent, accountable, and transparent.

The public comment period begins Thursday, Oct. 2, and will remain open through Friday, Oct. 31. Residents can review the proposed policies online and submit feedback directly through the department’s portal.

All input will be reviewed before the changes are finalized.
