A Pennsylvania-based specialty pharmacy is closing its Phoenix operation, resulting in the loss of 116 jobs and adding to a growing list of workforce reductions announced across Arizona this year.
Central Admixture Pharmacy Services (CAPS) notified state officials that it will permanently close its facility at 2200 S. 43rd Ave. Layoffs are scheduled to begin on or around Aug. 24, with some employees expected to remain through the end of the year as the company winds down operations.
CAPS operates 23 locations nationwide and provides compounded sterile medications for hospitals, health systems, and outpatient medical facilities. While the company has not publicly explained why it selected its Phoenix location for closure, it has cited a broader strategic refocusing of its business.
The closure follows a series of recent layoffs affecting multiple industries across Arizona, from healthcare and manufacturing to technology and logistics. While the state has continued to experience population and employment growth overall, individual employers have increasingly adjusted operations in response to changing market conditions, healthcare demand, and business priorities.
Employees affected by the closure are expected to receive support through Arizona’s workforce transition programs as the facility prepares to cease operations later this year.
