Phoenix Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Late-Night Crash; Driver Investigated for DUI

Police say the victim was crossing Northern Avenue outside a crosswalk when he was hit; the driver has been detained as the investigation continues.

A late-night collision in north Phoenix left a pedestrian dead and a driver facing DUI processing, according to police. The crash occurred around 11 p.m. Friday near 36th and Northern avenues, where officers found an adult man critically injured in the roadway.

When Phoenix Fire Department crews arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

Police identified the driver, also an adult male, who remained at the scene and was later taken to a precinct for DUI processing. Investigators determined that the pedestrian had been crossing Northern Avenue outside of a designated crosswalk when the vehicle struck him.

The Phoenix Police Department said the investigation is ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident adds to a growing number of pedestrian fatalities in the Valley, highlighting continued concerns about impaired driving and street safety during nighttime hours.
