Phoenix Outlines Thanksgiving Holiday Closures and Service Changes

Trash pickup shifts, libraries close and transit adjusts schedules for Nov. 27–28 observance

The City of Phoenix is preparing for its Thanksgiving holiday closure, with most municipal services adjusting operations on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28. While many facilities will shut down for the long weekend, essential services and online tools will remain available.

Trash and Recycling
There will be no curbside pickup on Thanksgiving Day. Residents with Thursday service will see collection move to Friday, and Friday pickups shift to Saturday. Both city transfer stations — 27th Avenue and North Gateway — will be closed for the full two-day holiday.

City Services and Libraries
The Public Works Customer Contact Center will be unavailable both days, though residents can continue submitting requests through the myPHX311 portal. Phone support resumes at 7 a.m. on Dec. 1.
All Phoenix Public Library branches will also close for the holiday, though book drops and digital resources remain accessible anytime at the library’s website.

Parking, Parks and Recreation
Parking meters will continue operating under standard enforcement — holidays included. Community centers within the Parks and Recreation system will close Thursday and Friday, reopening Saturday. Trails and parks remain open, with the city urging hikers to review its Take a Hike. Do it Right. safety guidance, available on the city’s site.

The S’edav Va’aki Museum will close on Thanksgiving Day but reopen Friday.

Transit Adjustments
Bus and light rail will shift to a Sunday schedule on Thanksgiving, with Customer Service closed. Friday service returns to a modified weekday schedule without Express or RAPID routes. Several transit centers — Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope and Central Station — will be closed both days. Updated schedules can be found at ValleyMetro.org.

Dial-a-Ride will continue operating by reservation from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. both days.

Sky Harbor Travel Tips
With holiday crowds expected at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, travelers are encouraged to reserve parking in advance and arrive early. The airport maintains real-time security wait times on its website and offers the PHX Reserve program, which lets passengers book a timed TSA screening slot. More details are available directly through Sky Harbor’s online travel hub.

Officials also remind travelers to confirm REAL ID-compliant identification before heading out and to arrive at least two hours early for domestic flights — three hours for international departures.

Phoenix will resume normal business operations after the holiday weekend, with most services returning Monday, Dec. 1.
