The City of Phoenix is preparing for its Thanksgiving holiday observance, with most municipal services adjusting schedules on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27–28. Here’s what residents can expect across key city departments.
Trash and Recycling
There will be no solid waste collection on Thanksgiving Day. Households with Thursday pickup will be serviced on Friday, and Friday routes will move to Saturday. Both city transfer stations — 27th Avenue and North Gateway — will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Customer Service and Libraries
The Public Works Customer Contact Center will be closed throughout the holiday but will resume operations at 7 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. Residents can continue to submit service requests through the myPHX311 portal during the closure.
All Phoenix Public Library branches will be closed Nov. 27–28, though book drops and digital resources will remain available.
Parking, Parks and Museums
Parking meters will operate under normal enforcement hours — 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily — including holidays.
Community centers will be closed both days, reopening on Saturday, Nov. 29. Parks and trails remain open, and visitors are encouraged to review the city’s trail-safety guidelines before heading out.
The S’edav Va’aki Museum will close Thursday but reopen Friday.
Transit Adjustments
Valley Metro bus and light rail will run on a Sunday schedule Thursday. On Friday, service returns to a weekday schedule, but Express and RAPID routes will not operate. Transit customer service will be closed Thursday and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Transit centers at Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope and Central Station will be closed both days.
Dial-a-Ride will operate by reservation from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both Nov. 27 and 28.
Sky Harbor Travel Guidance
Airport officials encourage travelers to reserve parking in advance and arrive early due to holiday crowds. Security wait times, parking availability and travel-ID requirements can be checked through Sky Harbor’s online travel portal. Passengers using Terminal 4 may access any gate from any checkpoint, and the airport’s PHX Reserve program offers the option to schedule a TSA screening time.
Travelers should confirm flight status before leaving for the airport and plan to arrive at least two hours early for domestic departures and three hours early for international flights.
More details and updates are available on the City of Phoenix and Sky Harbor websites.
