Phoenix Opens Community Survey for Renaming of South Phoenix Park and Community Center

Residents are being invited to help select a new name for the park and community center at 35th Avenue and Baseline Road following a City Council directive earlier this year.

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department has launched a public survey seeking community input on the renaming of the park and community center formerly known as César Chávez Park and Community Center in Phoenix.

The effort follows action taken by the Phoenix City Council on March 23, when councilmembers directed city staff to begin the process of renaming municipal facilities currently bearing César Chávez’s name. Days later, during a March 26 meeting, the Parks and Recreation Board instructed department staff to move forward with the formal renaming process, including public outreach and hearings.

City officials say the newly launched survey is intended to give residents a direct voice in selecting a new identity for the South Phoenix park and community center located near 35th Avenue and Baseline Road.

The survey will remain open through June 14, allowing participants to vote on proposed names or submit their own suggestions for consideration. Public feedback gathered during the process will help shape the department’s final recommendation.

According to the department, survey results and a proposed new name will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Board during its June 25 meeting.

Residents interested in participating can complete the survey online and learn more about the city’s parks system through the department’s website.
