Phoenix Mayoral Candidate Performs CPS On Crash Scene Victim

On Monday night in Phoenix, a mayoral candidate witnessed an accident and attempted to save the life of a man who was hit by a pickup truck. 

Authorities reported that a 77-year-old woman in a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck was driving west on Northern Avenue when she struck a man attempting to cross the street around 6:45 p.m. at 33rd Avenue. Police officers said that the man was not in a crosswalk.

After being hit, the victim landed in front of a different pickup truck driver in the Northern Avenue eastbound lanes. The man driving that vehicle was Phoenix mayoral candidate Daniel Valenzuela.


A Glendale firefighter, Valenzuela stopped his vehicle and was rear-ended by a small car. Valenzuela began performing CPR on the man who was truck.

Once emergency crews arrived, the victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. Police said that impairment isn’t believed to be a factor in the events. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
