PHOENIX – Kate Gallego is on track for reelection as Phoenix mayor, holding a significant 62.3%-37.7% lead over opponent Matt Evans with approximately 455,000 votes counted, according to the Maricopa County Elections Department. Gallego, who declared victory Tuesday night, expressed gratitude to Phoenix voters for their continued support. “I’m incredibly grateful that Phoenix voters have elected me to serve a final term as mayor, and I look forward to continuing to build a future that works for everyone,” she said in a statement.
Valley Mayors Facing Tight Reelection Races
In stark contrast, incumbents in other Valley cities, including Fountain Hills and Scottsdale, were trailing their opponents. Fountain Hills Mayor Ginny Dickey was behind Gerry Friedel, with a vote split of 54.7%-45.3%, while in Scottsdale, Mayor David Ortega trailed Lisa Borowsky 53.9%-46.1% with over 120,000 votes reported.
Additional Maricopa County Mayor Races
Other mayoral races in Maricopa County include Mesa, Paradise Valley, and Wickenburg. In Mesa, City Councilman Mark Freeman led former Mayor Scott Smith 52.8%-47.2% to succeed term-limited Mayor John Giles. Freeman, who has represented Mesa’s District 1 since 2017, closely trailed Smith in the primary but is now leading in the general election results.
In Paradise Valley, Mark Stanton led Anna Thomasson 53.8%-46.2%, vying to replace three-term Mayor Jerry Bien-Willner. Meanwhile, in Wickenburg, Bobbie “BG” Bratcher held a solid lead over Kristi Henson, at 58.1%-41.8%.
