Phoenix Man Shot, Killed By His Friend During Argument Over MMA and Boxing

A north Phoenix neighborhood is feeling a sense of relief with the announcement that police have a suspect in custody after a man was found shot to death inside of a car.

Officers responded to a shooting near 60th Street and Acoma Drive at 9 p.m. on Feb. 21 and discovered 24-year-old Dylan Forbes, in a vehicle suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

According to Phoenix Police, the suspect in the shooting, identified as 24-year-old Cameron Drake, left the scene of the crime and called police to report that “he shot Forbes in self-defense.”


Drake was later found by officers and taken into custody.

Reports detail that the suspect was in the car with Drake and one othter person when a dispute broke out and Forbes was shot.

According to court documents, the third person sitting in the car fled from the scene and called police, reporting that Drake shot Forbes during an argument about sports, MMA and boxing.

During an interview with police, Drake allegedly claimed that he ordered Forbes to get out of his car, but he refused. Drake claims that Forbes then pointed a gun at him.

The report details that Drake feared for his life and when the victim turned his head away, Drake shot the victim one time in the head.

Police have reported that evidence at the scene contradicted what Drake had told them about the details of the shooting.

Drake was arrested and booked into jail on a $250,000 bond. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
