Phoenix Man Arrested in November Killing of Girlfriend, Police Say

Investigators say evidence at the scene pointed to homicide; suspect held on $1.1 million bond

A 64-year-old Phoenix man has been arrested in connection with the death of his girlfriend late last month, according to police. Virgil Lee Lindsey was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on Monday on charges including second-degree murder in the killing of 66-year-old Lilly Jean Fields.

Police said officers responded to a call on Nov. 22 near Third Avenue and Pima Street, just south of downtown, where they found Fields dead. Evidence gathered at the scene led detectives to conclude the death was a homicide, a finding later confirmed by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Investigators identified Lindsey as the suspect and established probable cause to arrest him. The department said the pair were in an intimate relationship and that no additional suspects are being sought.

Lindsey is being held on a $1.1 million bond as the case moves forward.
