PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was arrested Thursday for allegedly shooting at another driver during a road rage incident in Peoria, authorities reported. Officers from the Peoria Police Department responded to a call about the shooting, which occurred near 83rd and Olive avenues around 8 a.m.
According to the report, the victim said he was driving east on Olive Avenue when another motorist, identified as Rey D. Villegas, pulled alongside him and began yelling. Villegas allegedly raised a handgun and fired a shot, striking the rear passenger door before fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, the victim was unharmed and contacted 911 after safely pulling over. Peoria officers canvassed the area but initially were unable to locate Villegas. Through investigative efforts, detectives later identified his vehicle and, with the help of the Peoria SWAT team, apprehended Villegas without incident.
Villegas, 49, is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drive-by shooting and has been booked into jail.
