Phoenix Man Arrested After Allegedly Fatally Shooting Relative in Peoria

19-Year-Old Suspect Faces Multiple Charges Following Domestic Dispute Turned Deadly

PHOENIX — A Phoenix man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing his 45-year-old relative during a domestic violence incident in Peoria on Saturday night, authorities said.

Peoria police officers responded to a shooting call near 83rd and Olive avenues around 11 p.m. Inside a home, they found the victim, identified as Warren Honeywood of Buckeye, lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Honeywood was pronounced dead at the scene.

What Led to the Tragedy?

Authorities said the incident began as a domestic dispute involving Honeywood and another individual in a bedroom. The suspect, 19-year-old Joshua Mayfield-Chavez Jr., allegedly intervened, confronted Honeywood, and shot him.

Mayfield-Chavez Jr. was arrested in Phoenix without incident shortly after the shooting, Peoria police said.

Charges and Investigation

Mayfield-Chavez Jr. is facing several charges, including:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Disorderly conduct with a weapon
  • Discharging a firearm in city limits
  • Endangerment

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released.
