A Phoenix man was taken into custody Thursday after police say he assaulted his father and allegedly attempted to set a home on fire during a domestic incident in north Phoenix.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a residence near Cave Creek Road and 12th Street after receiving reports of an assault involving family members.
Investigators said the man’s father reported being attacked by his son and told authorities the suspect had also attempted to ignite the home. Emergency responders transported the father to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
As officers worked to safely resolve the situation, smoke began emerging from the residence, prompting an immediate response from the Phoenix Fire Department.
Firefighters and police officers coordinated efforts to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. During the incident, the suspect exited the home and was taken into custody without further escalation.
Authorities said the suspect was also transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries before being booked in connection with the investigation.
One firefighter suffered a lower-body injury while responding to the fire and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Officials have not released details about the severity of the injury.
Police have not yet announced formal charges, and investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and fire.
The case remains under active investigation.
