PHOENIX — Phoenix Water Services has rolled out its first Chevrolet Equinox electric vehicles as part of its meter reading fleet, combining clean transportation with a new way to spread the city’s water stewardship message.
The newly deployed vehicles feature bold, full-body wraps designed to function as rolling billboards. Each one highlights a specific conservation theme: encouraging residents to fix household leaks, reminding the public to keep storm drains clear of pollutants, and emphasizing the city’s role in wastewater recycling and reuse. Select vehicles also display the same messages in Spanish to better reach Phoenix’s diverse neighborhoods.
Expanding outreach and reducing emissions
The vehicles, already in use across the city, are drawing public attention while cutting emissions and modernizing city operations. Additional cars are set to join the fleet this fall, extending Phoenix’s outreach and visibility on water issues.
Officials say the project reflects Phoenix Water’s wider efforts to pair sustainability with innovation, including cleaner fleet technology, conservation education, and expanded recycling initiatives.
Broader city water goals
The initiative is part of the city’s long-term plan to improve efficiency and strengthen environmental stewardship. By using its own operations as a platform for public education, Phoenix aims to remind residents that individual actions—such as repairing leaks or using water wisely—contribute to the city’s overall water security.
The electric meter reader vehicles represent just one element of Phoenix Water’s modernization strategy, which also includes infrastructure upgrades and expanded conservation programs.
