Phoenix Elementary School District to Continue Virtual Learning Through Early 2021

The Phoenix Elementary School District informed families Monday that students will continue remote learning through at least January 14.

“With the cold and flu season beginning, as we head into the Thanksgiving Holiday and Winter Break, and out of the health and safety concerns for students and staff, the Phoenix Elementary Governing Board voted to postpone the reopening of schools until January,” reads the update posted on the district’s web site.

A spokesperson for the district said, “the board approved specific metrics for the seven zip codes in which schools reside, and we have not yet met those benchmarks for two consecutive weeks.”

The district serves nearly 6,500 students in preschool through 8th grade.

Those students now join thousands of others in neighboring districts like Isaac School District, Alhambra Elementary School District, Roosevelt Elementary School District and Phoenix Union High School District.

All of them have also chosen to continue virtual learning through the rest of 2020.
