Phoenix has once again secured a spot among the world’s top environmental leaders, earning a coveted place on the CDP 2025 “A List” for climate transparency and action. The recognition, announced by the global nonprofit CDP, marks the fourth consecutive year that Phoenix has achieved the organization’s highest rating for environmental performance.
CDP, which operates the world’s leading environmental disclosure system, evaluates more than a thousand cities, states, and regions annually. Its “A List” highlights local governments that demonstrate strong governance, clear climate goals, and measurable progress toward reducing emissions and strengthening resilience.
To achieve an “A” rating, cities must meet rigorous standards — including maintaining a full greenhouse gas emissions inventory, adopting a credible climate action plan, and conducting vulnerability assessments that address long-term climate risks such as heat and drought.
“Phoenix’s approach to building a more resilient city is ambitious, transparent, and data-driven, and we are thrilled that CDP has recognized our efforts four years in a row,” said Mayor Kate Gallego. “As a desert city built on innovation, Phoenix continues to lead in water conservation, heat mitigation, and clean technology — creating solutions that can inspire communities worldwide.”
The CDP recognition underscores Phoenix’s growing reputation as a model for sustainable urban development, especially in regions facing extreme climate challenges. Through initiatives like its 2050 Climate Action Plan, the city continues to invest in renewable energy, transportation electrification, and strategies that promote livability in hotter, drier conditions.
