PHOENIX, Ariz. — A 36-year-old caretaker has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a disabled Phoenix man, police announced Tuesday.
Nuru Niyonkuru was charged with one count of vulnerable adult abuse following the death of William Miller, 50, who was under his care.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, first responders were called to a home near 20th and State avenues on April 10, where they found Miller unresponsive. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Investigators later confirmed that Niyonkuru was Miller’s assigned caretaker and determined that Miller had not received proper care prior to his death.
Authorities say they are awaiting the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s final report, which could result in additional charges against Niyonkuru, depending on the cause of death.
The case remains under investigation. No further details have been released.
