Phoenix – Area Freeway Closures This Weekend

According to Arizona Department of Transportation, there are several freeway closures in the Phoenix-area that commuters should be aware of for the weekend of October 27th.

Northbound State Route 51 will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The following day on Sunday, the southbound part of the highway will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During these closures, crews will repair the pavement and all the ramps leading onto the highway will also be closed during those times.

In addition, over the weekend southbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Shea Boulevard will be closed from 11:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday for maintenance.


Southbound Interstate 17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Camelback and Indian School roads from 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 9:00 a.m. on Saturday for crews to install a wrong-way vehicle detection system.

Northbound I-17 will be narrowed to two lanes between Bethany Home Road and Glendale Avenue from 9:00 p.m. on Saturday to 9:00 a.m. on Sunday for the installation of wrong-way vehicle detection system.

67th Avenue will be closed in both directions at the Loop 101 from 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday for traffic signal maintenance.

Westbound Interstate 10 off-ramp at 19th Avenue will be closed from 11:00 p.m. on Saturday to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday for fiber-optic cable work.

Pecos Road will be closed in both directions between 24th and 40th streets from 3:00 a.m. on Saturday to 5:00 a.m. on Monday for Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway utility work.

There will also be 20-minute closures along the following freeways to allow for overhead utility line work at the following locations:

-I-10 near 59th Avenue between 5 a.m. and noon on Sunday

– I-17 from Thomas Road to Indian School Road between 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday

– Loop 202 near SR 143 interchange between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sunday
