Phoenix Announces Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday Schedule for City Services

Most city offices and facilities will close Monday, January 19, while essential services like trash collection and public transit continue.

The City of Phoenix will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, 2026, with several municipal offices and facilities closing for the holiday. While many departments will pause operations, essential city services will continue as scheduled.

Trash and Recycling Collection
Residential trash and recycling pickup will not be affected. Residents with Monday service should place their containers out as usual. However, both the 27th Avenue and North Gateway transfer stations will be closed for the day.

Public Works and Library Services
The city’s Public Works Customer Contact Center will be closed Monday and reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday, January 20. Residents can still make service requests anytime through the myPHX311 portal.
All Phoenix Public Library branches will also be closed for the holiday, though book drops and digital resources will remain available at phoenixpubliclibrary.org.

Parks, Recreation, and Museums
Community centers will close Monday and resume regular hours Tuesday. City parks and hiking trails will remain open, and residents are encouraged to review the city’s Take a Hike. Do it Right. safety tips before visiting. The S’edav Va’aki Museum will close for the day and reopen Tuesday.

Parking and Transportation
Parking meters across Phoenix will still be enforced from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., including on the holiday. Public transit will operate on a regular weekday schedule, though Express and RAPID routes will not run. Customer Service will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but transit centers at Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope, and Central Station will be closed. Dial-a-Ride service will remain available by reservation from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
Travelers are advised to reserve airport parking in advance and allow extra time due to holiday traffic. Visit skyharbor.com/parkphx to book parking and check real-time availability. Passengers can also view security wait times online or via terminal display boards.

REAL ID-compliant identification remains required for travel, and flyers are encouraged to confirm flight times before heading to the airport. The PHX Reserve program is available for travelers wishing to schedule TSA screening appointments ahead of time.

City officials remind residents that while many offices will close in observance of Dr. King’s legacy, core services and transportation will continue to keep Phoenix running smoothly throughout the holiday.
