Phoenix residents planning for the Independence Day holiday weekend will see several changes to city services, although essential services such as residential trash collection will continue on their normal schedule.
City offices, including Phoenix City Hall, will observe the Independence Day holiday on Friday, July 3. Transfer stations on 27th Avenue and North Gateway will be closed, along with the Public Works Customer Contact Center. Most Phoenix Public Library branches will also close for the July 4 holiday, with Cholla Library remaining open as part of the city’s Heat Relief program.
Public transportation will operate on a Sunday schedule Friday, meaning no Express or RAPID bus service will be available. Community centers will be closed, while city parks and trails will remain open under normal hours. Parking meters will continue to be enforced throughout the holiday weekend.
The city is also encouraging residents to attend professionally managed fireworks displays, including Fabulous Phoenix 4th at Steele Indian School Park and the Light Up the Sky celebration at American Family Fields. The recommendation comes as Phoenix continues its fireworks safety campaign following an increase in fireworks-related emergency calls last year.
Officials also reminded residents that Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in effect due to elevated wildfire danger. Consumer fireworks are prohibited within one mile of mountain preserves, desert parks, regional parks, conservation areas, national forests, and wilderness areas. Travelers using Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are encouraged to reserve parking in advance, verify flight information before leaving home, and allow extra time for holiday traffic and security screening.
