Phoenix Airport’s Terminal 3 To Be Named After Sen. John McCain

A terminal at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is to be named after Arizona Sen. John McCain, after a unanimous vote from Phoenix’s City Council.

The city’s citizen-led Heritage Commission first reviewed and backed the decision, which then led the Council members to vote on Wednesday.

In a statement, McCain said that he was “deeply humbled” by the honor.

Last month, the first to propose that the terminal be named after McCain was Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton. Stanton hoped to honor the Senator after 30 years of service.

McCain will not be the only politician whose name is displayed at Sky Harbor International, Barry Goldwater’s lends his name to Terminal 4. Goldwater was long-serving Republican senator from Arizona.

Earlier this year, 81-year-old McCain was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
