Peoria Police Arrest 20-Year-Old in Deadly Road Rage Shooting Near Loop 101

Investigators say the suspect admitted to firing at a woman after claiming she “disrespected” him during a traffic dispute.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a road rage shooting that took place Saturday evening in Peoria, according to the Peoria Police Department.

Authorities identified the suspect as Rudy Sanchez Jr., who was taken into custody Wednesday after detectives used what they described as “advanced investigative technology” to trace the vehicle involved in the incident near State Route 101 and Peoria Avenue around 7:10 p.m.

During questioning, police say Sanchez admitted to shooting at the victim after she allegedly cut him off in traffic, telling investigators he acted because he felt “disrespected.” The woman’s identity has not been released, and police have not confirmed the extent of her injuries.

Sanchez has been booked into the Maricopa County Jail and faces multiple felony charges. His bond was set at $250,000, authorities said.

Peoria police emphasized the dangers of reacting to aggressive drivers, urging the public to remain calm and call law enforcement if they ever feel threatened.

“Engaging with hostile drivers can escalate quickly and lead to tragic consequences,” the department said in a statement. “If confronted, stay in your vehicle, avoid eye contact, and contact police.”

The arrest comes amid growing concern over violent road rage incidents across the Valley, a trend that has prompted law enforcement agencies to increase enforcement efforts on major highways and city streets.
