For the first time in 20 years, Peoria is adding a new fire station to its growing network of emergency services. City leaders and residents gathered this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of Fire-Medical Station 198 — a $20.8 million project that underscores Peoria’s continued population growth and its commitment to faster, more effective emergency response.
Located near Vistancia Boulevard and White Peak Drive, the 2.5-acre facility is expected to be completed by 2027. City officials say the new station will strengthen fire and medical response capabilities in northern Peoria, an area that has seen rapid residential and commercial development in recent years.
“As Peoria continues to grow, especially in the north, we’re making intentional investments to ensure residents receive the highest level of fire and emergency medical services,” said Jason Beck during the ceremony. “Fire Station 198 represents our commitment to long-term planning, strategic investment, and building a safer community — not just for today, but for generations to come.”
Fire-Medical Chief Gary Bernard echoed that sentiment, calling the new station “a symbol of Peoria’s dedication to the safety, health, and well-being of every resident.”
Beyond the permanent facility, the city also plans to open a temporary fire station south of the Saddleback community next month to provide interim coverage while construction on Station 198 is underway.
The project reflects Peoria’s broader strategy of meeting infrastructure needs ahead of demand — a move city officials say is vital to maintaining quality of life in one of Arizona’s fastest-growing regions.
