Paid Time Off for All Arizona Employees Starting July 1

This past November, the citizens of Arizona voted in favor of Prop 206. The effects of this bill will come into effect starting July 1st. One of the notable changes Prop 206 will bring to the residents of Arizona is the raise in minimum wage from $8.10 to $10 per hour.

The second major development from Prop 206 is that every company in Arizona that has more than one employee must offer paid time off (PTO) regardless of if the employee is full-time, part-time, temporary, or seasonal.

For every 30 hours worked, Arizona residents will earn one hour of PTO. If a company employs more than 15 people, they must allow the employees to bank 40 hours of PTO. For companies with less than 15 employees, they must allow an accruement of 24 hours.

Employees will begin earning time immediately starting July 1st. However, businesses can enact a 90-day probation period before accruing PTO for new employees.

If an employee ends their year with unused PTO, they can either cash out the value of the PTO or roll the hours over into the next calendar year.
