One Person Killed, Two Hospitalized in Multi-Vehicle Crash at Rural and University in Tempe

Intersection shut down for hours after red-light collision sends car into building

TEMPE, Ariz. — A deadly overnight crash in Tempe left one person dead and two others hospitalized after a driver reportedly ran a red light at a busy intersection.

The collision happened just after midnight Sunday near Rural Road and University Drive. According to Tempe police, a driver ran the red light and struck two other vehicles that were turning through the intersection.

Crash details and aftermath

One of the vehicles involved was forced off the road and crashed into the side of a nearby building. Emergency crews transported three people to the hospital, where one later died from their injuries.

The intersection remained closed for several hours as investigators worked the scene and crews cleared debris. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.

The crash is still under investigation.
