TUCSON, Ariz. — A 73-year-old Nogales man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced Tuesday.
Sergio Humberto Ramos was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps to 120 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Ramos pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine after admitting he was paid to store the drugs at a trucking yard near Nogales until they could be moved for distribution.
Ramos told investigators he knowingly stored the meth for someone else and intended to be paid for his role in the operation.
The case was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative, which targets major drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations through multi-agency collaboration.
The investigation involved the DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Petermann prosecuted the case.
