No. 8 UCF, No. 11 LSU To Clash In Playstation Fiesta Bowl

One of the most interesting matchups of the college football bowl season can be found in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl as an SEC powerhouse will take on one of the nation’s three unbeaten teams.

Louisiana State University will take on the University of Central Florida in the annual game at 11 a.m. MST on Jan. 1, 2019, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools in football, while UCF will be making its second-straight trip to a College Football Playoff New Year’s Six bowl game.

No. 8 UCF, 12-0, comes into the contest riding a 25-game winning streak, the longest in the nation. The team has not lost since Dec. 17, 2016.

“It is a great honor to host two of the most prolific college football teams who bring with them extremely passionate fan groups,” said Steve Leach, Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl board of directors.

The Fiesta Bowl is one of six bowl games in a regular rotation for slots hosting the College Football Playoff games. Last week, Playstation signed on for another two years as the primary sponsor of the Fiesta Bowl.

This will be the first Fiesta Bowl since State Farm Stadium received $28 million worth of revamped suites and other amenities.

According to Fiesta Bowl officials, the game usually brings in about $200 million annually in economic impact.

One more college football game will take place in the Valley as California and Texas Christian University will square off in the Cheez-It Bowl. That game will kick off at 7 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Chase Field in Phoenix.
