New York City Burger Chain Expands to Phoenix

New York City-based Shake Shack recently opened its doors in Uptown Plaza in Phoenix with the goal to bring fresh high-quality meals to local Phoenicians while providing them with a fun community gathering place.

Known for their 100 percent all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus burgers and more, the Uptown spot is the second Shake Shack location to open in Arizona.

With countless competing burger joints in the area, General Manager Carl McClure promises a different dining experience for restaurant goers coming to the Shack.

“We’re always trying to connect with our guests and be on a first name basis with them,” McClure said. “We want to be involved in the things they’re involved in.”

Shake Shack started in 2000 as a hotdog cart inside Madison Square Park in New York City. One man’s idea quickly turned into something more; today there are more than 80 national and international Shake Shack locations.

“One of the coolest things about Shake Shack is of all the locations, not one of them is the same as the other,” McClure said. “They’re all custom built, custom designed to match the community we’re in. If you’ve been to one Shack, you haven’t been to every Shack.”

While each Shake Shack has the same core menu, which includes Shack classics like the ShackBurger, Shack-cago Dog and the crinkle cut fries, McClure said there are some menu items unique to each location.

The Uptown Plaza location includes a varied selection of wine and local craft beer from Grand Canyon Brewing Company, SanTan Brewing Company and Phoenix Ale Brewery. The menu also includes the Shack-exclusive Shack Red and Shake White wine from Frog’s Leap Winery and ShackMeister Ale from Brooklyn Brewery

In addition to the local beers and wine, this Shack also spins three Arizona-exclusive frozen custard concretes: the Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunchcrete, the Mallow Monsoon and the CamelShack which uses a banana cream pie from local purveyor The Bakery PHX.

As part of Shake Shack’s mission to Stand For Something Good, Shake Shack will donate five percent of sales from the CamelShack concrete to St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance
