New State Poll Shows Strong Bipartisan Support for Congress to Address Insurance Industry Influence and to Oppose European-Style Health Care Systems

Arizona Poll Finds Support for Biotech Innovation, Healthcare Access, and Action on Insurance Industry Influence

A new statewide poll conducted on behalf of the Arizona Myeloma Network found overwhelming bipartisan support for protecting America’s leadership in biotechnology innovation and showed a broad concern about the growing influence of insurance companies over patient healthcare access. Furthermore, it appears that a majority of voters are opposed to European-style health care policies that limit their access to new, innovative medications.

The poll surveyed 348 high-likelihood Arizona voters between May 7 and May 21 through a mix of landline and cellphone interviews. The poll carried a margin of error of +/- 4.6%.

Arizona Voters Support U.S. Leadership in Biotechnology Innovation

According to the survey, nearly 9 in 10 Arizona voters (89.1%) believe it is important for the United States to protect its position as a global leader in biotech innovation and the development of new medicines. Support crossed party lines, including 90.5% of Democrats, 86% of Republicans, and 91% of Independent voters.

Majority Oppose European-Style Healthcare Price Controls

Additionally, Arizona voters expressed skepticism toward adopting European-style government price control models for prescription drugs. By a 60.1% to 39.9% margin, respondents opposed implementing healthcare policies similar to those used in parts of Europe, where patients often face reduced access to newer treatments and medicines.

Concern Grows Over Insurance Company Influence on Healthcare Access

The survey also found broad concern about rising healthcare insurance costs and the role insurance companies play in determining access to care. More than three-quarters of voters (76.3%) said policymakers should address the growing influence insurance companies have over Americans’ healthcare services and treatment access.

“Putting patients first has always been the goal of the Arizona Myeloma Network,” said Barbara Kavanagh, founder of the Arizona Myeloma Network. “We have routinely met with many of our leaders in Congress and strongly advocated for the needs of the cancer community. This poll shows that Arizonans want continued access to new medications to fight these devastating diseases. I personally have lived in some of these European countries where medication and treatment is restricted, and when my husband Jack was diagnosed with myeloma, we ended up getting treatment here in the U.S. where medications are available and treatment is not limited.”

  • 89.1% of Arizona voters support protecting U.S. leadership in biotech innovation and new medicine development
  • 60.1% oppose adopting European-style healthcare price control policies
