A married couple from New River has been convicted in federal court for orchestrating a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme that siphoned more than $12 million from Arizona’s Medicaid program.
Thvoughn Lynden Curry and Alexis Daneen Curry, both 34, were found guilty on multiple charges tied to their operation of 1 Family Clinic, LLC. The convictions include conspiracy to commit health care fraud, several counts of health care fraud, and transactional money laundering. Each count carries the possibility of up to 10 years in prison, along with fines and restitution payments. Sentencing is set for May 4.
According to prosecutors, the couple secured enrollment in the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) — the state’s Medicaid program serving low-income residents — by submitting false information in their provider application. Authorities said the application misrepresented the clinic’s ownership and management structure, listing Alexis Curry as the sole owner and manager while also naming Thvoughn Curry in a leadership role despite his outstanding felony fraud warrant at the time.
After gaining approval, the clinic began billing AHCCCS for services that investigators later determined were never performed. Court evidence showed that between February 2021 and March 2023, the clinic routinely submitted claims reflecting more than 12 hours of services per patient per day on average — despite operating on a limited weekly schedule that made such volume implausible.
Over the course of the scheme, AHCCCS paid the clinic more than $12 million, prosecutors said. Trial testimony indicated that much of the money was diverted for personal use, including the purchase of a luxury SUV valued at more than $300,000.
Federal investigators described the case as a stark example of fraud targeting programs designed to assist vulnerable communities. Officials emphasized that financial crimes tied to public health systems remain a top enforcement priority.
The upcoming sentencing hearing will determine how much prison time and restitution the couple will face as the case moves into its final phase.
