New Ghostbusters Movie is a Blast From The Past

The new Ghostbusters movie has been a product of mixed reviews to say the least. As someone who remembers watching the original Ghostbusters growing up, I was skeptical about the reboot to say the least.

However, I found myself delightfully surprised by the result. I thought the reboot was pulled off fantastically, with enough of the old Ghostbusters to please fans of the original and enough new to stand on its own and be successful. The plot of the new movie did harken back to the old one just enough, but it also was pleasing as its own, a younger audience member would be able to enjoy it without knowing the original.

What tied it together for me was all the cameos of old characters. There was a child-like excitement seeing all those familiar faces again as I watched it. I was even more excited to see some of the old ghosts in it. From Bill Murray to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, it set off plenty of nostalgia.

Another concern that I was afraid of was the change in the original characters. After all, the characters in most reboots fall a little short, don’t they? Once again though, I found myself impressed. The leading ladies- Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon- pulled off their characters flawlessly. Each character reminded me of the old ones, but they also had a distinctly unique air about them.

I was also pleased upon learning the attention to detail in all the mathematics and engineering in this movie. Even for the scene in the beginning with all the math equations in the background, they were all correct.

All in all, I would say the Ghostbusters reboot was a job well done. It was well-cast, well-planned, and well-executed. It blew out of the water all the critiques I had heard before seeing it and cast out any doubts of it living up to the original.
